HS Sports

Just as attending our school is a privilege not a right, representing WSCS as a team competitor is an honor.  Sports teams are fun, but remember it is not just all about the fun.  The purpose of our sports program is to teach discipline, commitment, and fair play, and how to win and lose graciously.

Show respect to your coaches as they help you master these disciplines.  Team work is the key.

*Please note that if school is canceled due to inclement weather, the basketball game on that same night would also be canceled.

 Grade Policy:

Requirements for sports participation:

  • Maintain a minimum of a C average in each major subject.  If you receive a D on a progress report or report card, it must be brought up to a C within two weeks while continuing to play and practice, at the discretion of the teacher.  If the grade is not brought up within two weeks, you are off the team until the grade is brought up.
  • If you receive an F as a grade on your progress report or report card, you are ineligible to practice or play for a minimum of two weeks.  The grade must be raised to a C, and that averable must be maintained to be eligible to play.
  • A student who has an incomplete on his progress report or report card and is failing is ineligible to practice or play and has two weeks to make up all the work.  At this point, the grade will be determined.  All grading policies will then take effect.  The teacher has the discretion to determine the student’s eligibility due to illness or other extenuating circumstances.
  • Team members must use their time wisely and not expect preferential treatment because of athletics.
  • Cheating is a sin against God.  Do not ask other students to share answers with you.  You are expected to come to school prepared.

Attendance:

  • If you come in late on game day, you are ineligible to play that day unless you have a valid excuse .  (Doctor or dentist appointment, emergency, car breakdown, or weather conditions.)
  • If come in late the day following the game, you are ineligible to play the first half of the next game.

Practice:

  • Be diligent in attending all practices.  If you cannot make practice for whatever important reason, you must notify your coach.  A note or phone call from parents would be best.
  • Control your attitude and temper during practice.
  • Listen to your coach and follow through with their instructions.
  • Dress for practice in a manner that would not offend Jesus Christ.

Dress Code for Games:

  • Boys: Come to all games in a dress shirt and tie, turtleneck, or collared neck and sweater.  Dress pants are acceptable.
  • Girls: Come to all games in acceptable school attire.

During the Game:

  • Be a team player.
  • Be an encourager of teammates.
  • Accept and carry out instruction from coaches.
  • Accept the referee’s decisions without question even if you believe they have made a bad call.
  • Treat teammates, opponents, and coaches with respect.
  • Use the talents God has given you in a way that will glorify Him.

As a Spectator:
