HS Absences, Dismissals, Tardiness

Absenteeism is a serious problem.  Students who miss classes are put to a great disadvantage over others.  Success is no accident and attendance is an important part of the discipline needed to succeed both in your school career and also in your future employment. The disciplines of attendance and hard work are qualities which lead to success

Absences:

  • In the event of an absence, parents should call the school by 8:30 a.m.
  • When the student returns to school after an absence, the parent must send a written note to the child’s teacher explaining the reason for the absence.
  • Any student who misses thirty or more days of school in one year may be failed for the year.

 Excused Absence:

  • Students who are taken out of school for family trips, etc., are responsible to complete all missed work.  Prior arrangements must be made by the parents.
  • All excused absences will allow the student one (1) week in which to make up missed tests.

Unexcused Absence:

  • When a student is absent without parental permission, or misses classes without making prior arrangements, the student will be charged with an unexcused absence.  When a student returns from an unexcused absence, all work must be turned in upon the student’s return.  The student will then be penalized by 2 letter grades.  Any tests missed due to an unexcused absence will be made up by the student, with the highest possible score being 60%.
  • After three unexcused absences, a parental conference will be necessary.

 Tardiness:

  • Students who arrive late for school MUST report to the office immediately upon arrival to sign in.  Any student arriving after 10:00 a.m. will be counted absent for one half day.  Any student leaving before noon will also be counted absent for one-half day.
  • When a student is marked tardy three times or more in one grading period, it will count as a full day’s absence  and that student may be asked to make up time.

Early Dismissal:

  • Students who need to be dismissed early from school, must bring in a written note that morning from the parent advising the school of the reason for the early dismissal.
  • All students who leave early during the school day must sign out in the office.
  • If a parent is picking up the student for early dismissal, the parent should stop in the office and have the student paged.

Dismissal Time:

  • All students whould leave or be picked up at 3:00 p.m.
